Actionable wisdom:
“Substituting prolonged sedentary time with sleep was associated with lower stress, better mood and lower body mass index.”
😴 We all want to lead happier and healthier lives. Fortunately, science shows that you can edge closer to your goals with nothing more than a little midday snooze. The good folk at Iowa State University have been dreaming big, and in this study they found that taking a nap seems to be better for our bodies and minds than doing nothing at all!
This week’s cool thing:
❄️ The Iceman cometh! We’ve been hearing a lot about the Wim Hof breathing method, so it’s about time we shared it here.
This Deutsch legend’s breathing techniques have been widely reported to improve sleep, while also providing a bunch of other health benefits. Prepare to be amazed by the power of your own breath.
Side note:
🚀 A new player has joined the space race. On 19th July 2020, the UAE launched their Mars orbiter, named Hope, into the great dark beyond. With more and more nations building bridges between Earth and our red neighbor, we’ll surely soon be asking: who will be the first man or woman to take a nap on Mars?
💡Answer: Yes! Well… maybe. A 2013 study by Dr. Cajochen found that, during a full moon, participants took five minutes longer to drop off, slept for 20 minutes less, and spent 30% less time in deep sleep.
What’s more: the participants couldn’t see the moon, and had no idea it was full! Sadly, there hasn’t been any further research in this area since that study, so it’s hard to say for sure.
